Muppets meet classification

So cute they hurt

In honor of Sesame Street’s birthday, I was re-watching my fav Muppets – the Yip Yips – and found myself wondering about their classification book. In this segment, it’s obviously not very good:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fQaj31Wtko. And then there’s this one, that explains their methodology a bit better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtFEdhggOw0 (classification by height, face, hands).

Later on their book appears to be much easier, in the digital age: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2ZkJd4u0Us&feature=related (also features a sweet computer!).

For such a thin volume, it sure seems to be quite complete in indexing and retrieving all the attributes of earth-things with relatively little searching. Attention all library friends:  hire the Yip Yips as consultants for all your sticky indexing/retrieval needs!

  3. Too bad the Yip Yips didn’t have the classification book with them the first time they met a computer:

Maybe then they wouldn’t have wrecked all of Luis’ work!

(My favorite scenes: The news flashes where Kermit reports live from the scene of nursery rhymes or ends up saving the day for the pianist who has writer’s block. The Yip Yips were a close second.)
